On to North Iceland
While we in the Westfjords, Sage kept pointing out an ad for a petting zoo / farm. The ad had pictures of horses and sheep and dogs and other animals. It was very effective for a 2 year old. We decided while we were here to check out the place Sage wanted to go.

It was great. Sage loved it. They had lots of animals – goats, horses, bunnies, sheep, a pig, ducks, a raven, chickens, dogs, parrots, pigeons, turkeys, guinea pigs, and degu (which I had never heard of but Steve remembered having as a kid). At first Sage was very cautious, but with time she warmed up to the animals, eventually petting and feeding them and riding the horse.

She loved to go into the parrot enclosure and close the mesh door behind her.

They had a small playground with a see saw too.

From there we went to a Creamery nearby for lunch, cheese and ice cream. They also had a playground and jumping pad which Sage enjoyed.
After that we had a 2 hour drive to the campsite in the north. Sage slept, probably dreaming of horses and dogs and birds. There was a nice playground nearby.

Today the weather was cloudy and rainy, which was fine for us. We drove to see a rock on a beach with some seals.

We talked to Grandma and Grandpa on the phone and then went to lunch at an Ethiopian restaurant.

It was delicious and a nice change of pace. Then groceries and on to the Hofsós pool, one that I had remembered fondly from our last trip. The pool is the community pool, set outside overlooking the fjord. It was foggy but beautiful.

Our next stop is Dalvik. After looking at the ferry schedule and the weather we decided that tomorrow is the best day to take the ferry from Dalvik to Grimsey island, which sits on the Artic Circle. The ferry takes 3 hours and we may see whales and dolphins on the way. It’s something we didn’t get to do last time we were here and have been talking about since.
We are camping tonight at Dalvik. Sage went to sleep easy while Steve made a delicious dinner and we ate and shared travel tips with a nice mother /daughter couple from Canada.
