Saying goodbye to Grandma and Grandpa and then a day at Landmannalaugar
Yesterday we took Grandma and Grandpa to the airport. It’s been a fun time with them here and it’s gone fast. Sage was sad to see them go.
It was rainy all evening and morning, but by the time we drove west from Reykjavik it was clearing and starting to be sunny.
We stopped at a waterfall along the way for lunch and naps. Sage is so used to her tent now, when we put her in it, she just lays down and goes to sleep. She slept for 2 hours.

From there we went to the Hella pool. It’s one of our favorites in the area with lots of hot tubs, a nice kids pool and two big slides that Sage loves going on. We met a nice local couple with a little boy about Sage’s age. The were originally from Spain and Denmark so we practiced our Spanish.
We stayed at the Hella campsite to be close to our bus to Landmannalaugar today.
This morning we woke up and drove to the bus stop (which was about a minute away). The bus ride was 2 1/4 hrs, something that had made us unsure of the trip. We are so glad we did it. The ride was beautiful. Sage was great. She watched the scenery and fell asleep.

When we arrived we headed off of the recommend hike. It took us about 3 hours total and was breathtaking and diverse the whole way. We took pictures while Sage chatted, ate, sang, and eventually fell asleep.

We got back and had lunch, explored the camp a bit and got back on the bus home. A great trip.

The views on the way back were great. This time we all napped.

Back in Hella, we settled at the campsite and fed Sage. I put her to sleep while Steve made dinner. At the dining area we overheard that the puffins may have left. I’m glad we saw them last week!
