A day on Grimsey Island
Today we woke up and met a ferry from Dalvik to Grimsey Island. Grimsey is part of Iceland. It’s an island to the north that sits right on the artic circle.

The ferry takes 3 hours each way. It was foggy today so we didn’t see any whales, dolphins or waterfalls as is suggested happens sometimes.

When we arrived at Grimsey Sage immediately said “Train!”. Steve and I didn’t see the train at first. In fact Steve figured she was talking about something else. She kept insisting and finally we saw it… A little train that was there to take people around the island and ends up at the one restaurant.

The train tour was perfect, it took us along the island with stops to see the birds and cliffs and to get out and wander around.

Even though it was the best day weather wise to go to Grimsey, it was still quite cold in the low 40s, with a feels like temperature of 38.
At the restaurant we had the soup and bread, a delicious cauliflower and broccoli soup, and french fries. Sage’s high chair also transformed into a boat, which she enjoyed.

Sage was tired and Steve wanted to explore more, so he put her in his backpack and they went back out while I sat in the cafe and read my book and enjoyed a hot chocolate and the view from inside.
While out, Steve got a ride on an ATV , ran up to the highest point on Grimsey and saw lots of birds and a rock that used to mark the artic circle (but may or may not be accurate now). Sage eventually fell asleep.

Steve got back to the cafe in time for a slice of apple pie before catching the ferry back home.

We got back and went to a local restaurant here that was in our notes from 2019. We had the lamb, as instructed by our 2019 selves, and it was delicious.
Then back to the campsite. Sage danced and then went to sleep in her tent. What a fun day.
