Two more days in Akureyri

We’ve spent today and yesterday in Akureyri while there is still rain and snow in the forecast for Husavik and Myvatn, our next two stops.

Yesterday we woke up, went to the pool and gym in Akureyri again, then for lunch at a delicious Chinese restaurant in town. Sage took a nap while we played scrabble.

Then we went to the Barbie movie. It was great all around.

It was Sage’s first movie, so I wasn’t sure how it would go. Would she sit and watch the movie? How would I eat popcorn without her wanting it (the pediatrician recommends no popcorn because of the choking risk)? She did great. She was mesmerized by the movie. She asked once about popcorn and I said “nah, you don’t want it” and she was fine with that.

The movie was also awesome. It was funny, had great actors and a great story and feminist message. We all enjoyed it.

Today we drove into Akureyri again, stopping at a creek for pictures.

We went for a walk, lunch at the Indian restaurant, and a trip to the playground and then the bakery. Sage’s shoes broke so we got her new ones, which she loves.

From there we drove on to Husavik. We stopped for pictures and a brief walk around Godafoss.

We were here in 2019. Crazy to think about everything that has happened since then.

Húsavík is a cute little town centered around the harbor and whale watching. We had a delicious dinner and then wandered around a carnival that was going on in the harbor. Sage rode the rides all by herself for the first time and loved it.

From there the campground was close, but definitely our least favorite campground, for lots of reasons starting with there was nowhere flat to park. We don’t need to stay here again.
