Weather days
We’ve had such great weather for a while… We knew it was bound to change at some point. Yesterday and today have been cold and rainy and windy. Tomorrow looks the same.
But, this is fine. We’ve taken the time to visit the local pool and gym a lot, visit the Cafe, get laundry and grocery shopping done and plan out our next few days.

The campsite here is part of the pool / sports complex. We go there in the mornings and have taken turns hanging in the pool with Sage and working out. The facilities are great. Theres a nice indoor pool, a toasty warm outdoor kiddie pool, two hot tubs and an also warm big twisty water slide. Sage likes all of it. The gym indoors is nice too.

In the afternoon we drove into Ísafjörður for the information office, to help us plan our time here. Then dinner. Rib eye sandwiches for us, fish for Sage, and a slice of salted caramel cake for dessert. Yum.

We started today at the pool again. Steve worked out while Sage and I swam. Then lunch and a few phone calls to Abu, Papi Bob, Grandma and Grandpa and Claire.
Then a visit to a nearby lookout. When we got there we were in such a thick cloud we only knew we were there because of Google maps. I stayed in the car with Sage who had fallen asleep and pointed Steve in the direction that I believed the lookout to be. He came back looking wet and cold. Brrrr…

Then we drove into Ísafjörður to the coffee shop. I had a hot chocolate and we all split a chocolate caramel cake. It was amazing. Sage was sad when it was all gone and asked for more. We did a little exploring of the town, some on foot, but then more comfortably by driving around. It’s a cute little town with lots of boats. We made plans for when the weather improves.

For dinner we had reservations at Tjoruhusid a local seafood restaurant, which got really great reviews. It’s in an old red barn, and had two seatings a night. We sat next to four women on vacation from Norway.

When your arrive there’s delicious bread, and then dinner starts with an amazing fish soup. Steve and I both wanted more but also knew we didn’t want to fill up before the main course. The main course is a huge fish buffet. The chefs cook all kinds of different fish dishes, all from local caught fish from the day. They bring the pans right out onto the buffet table and serve you up as you go by.

I feel like often buffets will sacrifice quality for quantity, but this did not at all. Each dish was delicious. Steve went back for seconds, I wanted too but just couldn’t.
The whole experience was just amazing and unique and delicious. I couldn’t help but think of my dad. It’s exactly the kind of restaurant he would have loved and had he known would have told us… You have to go there when you’re in Iceland.
Sage loved it all of course…. Bread, soup, fish. She was a cutie pie.

Stuffed we went back to the campsite to bed.
Tomorrow the weather looks yucky again too, so we plan on visiting the pool and cafe and brewery. We have found that we are enjoying this bit of different pace, and still feel like we are getting to know the area. We will probably head out on Wednesday to one more town in the Westfjords and then from there back to the ring road.
