To the Vestmannaeyjabaer Islands
Yesterday we woke up and drove to a hike from the ring road. It was beautiful. We saw a few people as we arrived and a few on the way out, otherwise it was just us and birds and sheep along the whole valley. We walked for about 3.5 miles round trip.

The trail followed a stream up a crack in the mountain, as it meandered and fell across waterfalls. We took a ton of pictures.

We were happy to have our new, waterproof raincoats as it was drizzling a bit. Sage loved my new yellow coat. She told me it was nice.

On the way back we were greeted by a dog, probably from the local farm. He wanted us to throw rocks for him to fetch. Sage laughed and requested more dog.

Back at the car, we stopped quickly by a nearby waterfall called Irafoss. It was a quick walk and a beautiful stop.

Then on to Landeyjahöfn to catch the ferry to Vestmannaeyjabaer Islands. We were the first in our row so we could watch the boat sail into port. Sage was very excited about the boat and how big it was. When we told her we were going to drive the car ON the boat she said “Wow!” She’s right, it’s pretty cool.

Steve and I can’t remember if we’ve ever driven a car on a ferry before. I think so, he thinks no, but neither can remember.

On the island we drive to the campsite. There’s a soccer (fútbol) tournament going on, so the campsite is busy and overrun by soccer kids and families and one very stressed out campsite manager. We find a spot, and go for a short walk to check out the views and look for puffins.
Back at the campsite, Steve makes a delicious dinner while Sage watches the girls practice for soccer. She wants to join them.
Today our plan is to explore the island a bit. We have a boat tour around the island this afternoon, then early dinner in town before returning to the campsite and perhaps visiting the nearby pool.
